Through their obser\u00adva\u00adtions, they make an impor\u00adtant con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to doc\u00adu\u00adment\u00ading the flo\u00adra of Graub\u00fcn\u00adden. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our por\u00adtrait series, we intro\u00adduce the peo\u00adple behind Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today: Simon Gysi, a soft\u00adware devel\u00adop\u00ader from Zurich. He has been involved with the project since 2022. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This por\u00adtrait pho\u00adto of Simon Gysi was tak\u00aden on May 29, 2026, dur\u00ading the map\u00adping week\u00adend in the Safien\u00adtal val\u00adley at the Bischola Pass. Pho\u00adto: Ingrid Jansen. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Simon, how did you get into botany?<br><\/strong>Thanks to my grand\u00adfa\u00adther, I was inter\u00adest\u00aded in nature even as a child. While my enthu\u00adsi\u00adasm for plants was lim\u00adit\u00aded as a teenag\u00ader, I lat\u00ader often found myself drawn to col\u00ador\u00adful plants while moun\u00adtain climbing\u2014though I didn\u2019t know what they were. On the rec\u00adom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtion of an uncle, I took BirdLife\u2019s field botany course. When Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca was pre\u00adsent\u00aded to the Zurich Botan\u00adi\u00adcal Soci\u00adety short\u00adly there\u00adafter, I didn\u2019t have to think twice about join\u00ading.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Which sea\u00adson do you find most inter\u00adest\u00ading from a botan\u00adi\u00adcal perspective\u2014and why?<br><\/strong>Except for win\u00adter, I find all the sea\u00adsons inter\u00adest\u00ading, and I always look for\u00adward to get\u00adting to know the plants as they go through their var\u00adi\u00adous stages. Dif\u00adfer\u00adent species can be seen depend\u00ading on the sea\u00adson, so there\u2019s always some\u00adthing new to dis\u00adcov\u00ader. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why are you involved with Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca?<br><\/strong>Being out\u00addoors and the \u201ctrea\u00adsure hunt\u201d bring me joy, and of course it\u2019s also nice to be part of a com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty of like-mind\u00aded peo\u00adple.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is your con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca?<br><\/strong>Dur\u00ading the botany sea\u00adson, I enjoy work\u00ading on rapid inven\u00adto\u00adries or indi\u00advid\u00adual mis\u00adsions. Dur\u00ading sum\u00admer break, I usu\u00adal\u00adly vis\u00adit remote regions and stay overnight in SAC huts to doc\u00adu\u00adment the plants in the area. Out\u00adside of the botan\u00adi\u00adcal sea\u00adson, I sup\u00adport the project with my skills as a soft\u00adware devel\u00adop\u00ader. Among oth\u00ader things, I\u2019ve cre\u00adat\u00aded dai\u00adly updat\u00aded progress maps and lists of species still to be found, which are avail\u00adable on the web\u00adsite.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is there a high\u00adlight or a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly excit\u00ading dis\u00adcov\u00adery you\u2019ve come across dur\u00ading your explo\u00adrations for Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca?<\/strong><br>A spe\u00adcial high\u00adlight for me was con\u00adfirm\u00ading the pres\u00adence of rock valer\u00adian <em>(Vale\u00adri\u00adana sax\u00adatilis)<\/em> dur\u00ading a Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca \u201cDis\u00adcov\u00ader\u201d mis\u00adsion near the Ringel\u00adspitzh\u00fctte.
