Pho\u00adto: Salome Arias Linares. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Carmelia, what do you love about plants?<br><\/strong>Their beau\u00adty, their diver\u00adsi\u00adty, and their struc\u00adture, per\u00adfect down to the small\u00adest detail. I nev\u00ader cease to be fas\u00adci\u00adnat\u00aded by observ\u00ading plants through a mag\u00adni\u00adfy\u00ading glass. I\u2019m also cap\u00adti\u00advat\u00aded by their devel\u00adop\u00adment through\u00adout the year\u2014from ger\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion, through flow\u00ader\u00ading and fruit set, to prepar\u00ading for win\u00adter. Even when dried out, many plants are still beau\u00adti\u00adful.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How did you get into botany?<br><\/strong>I\u2019ve always been pas\u00adsion\u00adate about plants. In 2024, I decid\u00aded to take a career break and set out to learn more about the plant world. I start\u00aded with a basic course in field botany and an intro\u00adduc\u00adto\u00adry course at Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do you have a favorite plant that grows in Graub\u00fcn\u00adden? Why that one in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar? <br><\/strong>Ever since I was a child, my favorite flower has been the daisy (Latin: *margri\u00adta*, *flur per mint\u00adga meins*\u2014a flower for every month). It grows all year round and nev\u00ader fails to delight me with its sim\u00adple appear\u00adance and gold\u00aden cen\u00adter. Two years ago, I dis\u00adcov\u00adered <em>Tri\u00adfoli\u00adum arvense<\/em> (field clover) and imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly fell in love with this plant. It\u2019s real\u00adly fluffy and soft, just like a rabbit\u2019s fur. But to be hon\u00adest: On every out\u00ading, I find a new favorite plant.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How did you first hear about Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca?<br><\/strong>By chance\u2014or was it fate? I had read a short arti\u00adcle about the project in *Quo\u00adtid\u00adi\u00adana* and then con\u00adtact\u00aded the project coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtor, Ingrid Jansen. Then one thing led to anoth\u00ader, and sud\u00adden\u00adly I was right in the thick of it.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is your con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to the project?<br><\/strong>In the win\u00adter of 2025, I helped col\u00adlect his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal data for the Sur\u00adsel\u00adva region\u2014an excit\u00ading and inter\u00adest\u00ading task. When\u00adev\u00ader I have time and my knowl\u00adedge of plants allows, I also enjoy report\u00ading plant sight\u00adings. I think it\u2019s great that even small con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions count and are appre\u00adci\u00adat\u00aded at Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Was there a dis\u00adcov\u00adery or a moment out\u00addoors that you\u2019ll nev\u00ader for\u00adget?<br><\/strong>At the end of June 2025, I was cycling along the Polen\u00adweg to har\u00advest the last of the elder\u00adflow\u00aders. As I was park\u00ading my bike, my house key slipped out of my pants pock\u00adet. When I went to pick it up, I spot\u00adted a tiny, pink flower by the side of the path. Imag\u00adine my sur\u00adprise when it turned out to be a small cen\u00adtau\u00adry (<em>Cen\u00adtau\u00adri\u00adum pul\u00adchel\u00adlum<\/em>). The dis\u00adcov\u00adery was a pure coin\u00adci\u00addence, and I was over\u00adjoyed to have found such a rare species.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does a suc\u00adcess\u00adful day in the field mean to you?<br><\/strong>When I don\u2019t even real\u00adize it\u2019s high time to go home, and when I\u2019ve dis\u00adcov\u00adered yet anoth\u00ader new plant.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What advice would you give to peo\u00adple who are inter\u00adest\u00aded in plants in Graub\u00fcn\u00adden?<\/strong><br>Join Flo\u00adra Raet\u00adi\u00adca, take a beginner\u2019s course in field botany, and be curi\u00adous and obser\u00advant.
