Tools for mapping work

Everything you need for mapping — apps, instructions, maps, species lists and identification tools.

Sensitive habitats
Moors and other valuable biotopes are sensitive to trampling. Only enter them in small groups (max. 3 people) and move as gently as possible.

Collect plants
Only collect plant material if it is necessary for a reliable determination.

Protected areas
In mushroom and plant protection areas, the collection of all plant material is prohibited. For Flora Raetica, a collection permit for research purposes can be applied for if required.

Private land
When mapping on private land or in agricultural areas, please contact the owner in advance.

Steep terrain
Behave responsibly, do not take any risks and adapt the excursion routes to your fitness and surefootedness.

Plan your excursions directly via the interactive map.

The map shows the mapping progress in Graubünden: For each of the 360 squares (5 km × 5 km), the percentage of species found since 2021 compared to the expected species is shown.

Species lists

These lists will help you to search for specific species:

Determination tools & literature

The majority of plants can be identified using a hand-held magnifying glass with 10x magnification. For finer features, a 14x or 20x magnification can occasionally be helpful.

There are many helpful books on plant identification. Our literature list (download) contains a selection of proven works for:

  • Basic knowledge of field botany
  • Determination of plants
  • Systematics of the plants
  • Habitats
